Cambridge, MA, May 7, 2012– Groundhog Technologies today announced that it has received a multi-million dollar order from a Tier 1 mobile network operator in the Middle East. This operator is the largest operator in the country and serves mobile subscribers nationwide. This operator selected the CovMo™ geolocation system following extensive competitive product evaluation and testing that included almost all major vendors in the geolocation field. Groundhog Technologies expects to kick-off the project by the end of Q2 2012 and begin to recognize the majority of revenue from this order in the fourth quarter of 2012.
“In the past several years this operator has seen significant increases in packet data traffic on its network, which in turn creates many new challenges for its network troubleshooting and optimization. The operator selected our CovMo™ geolocation solution because it has been proven to provide high-resolution geolocation with indoor capability, under 24×7 near-real-time operation over a nation-wide network,” said David Chiou, CEO of Groundhog Technologies. “This customer was also looking for a solution which works seamlessly with its other important systems such as Customer Experience Management system to help ensure its subscribers enjoy not only the best network quality but also best customer service in the country.”
Ovum’s recently published mobile forecasts found that mobile network connections will grow at a CAGR of 6.1% between 2011 and 2016, while revenues will grow at a CAGR of just 2.2%. Mobile network operators worldwide face huge data traffic growth and increasing complexity of a multi-vendor, multi-generation network, but need to handle the growth in a much more efficient manner than previously. They are looking for a way to solve network issues with high geographical resolution and accuracy based on subscribers’ actual user experience. The ability to differentiate indoor issues from outdoors is especially important for network optimization and troubleshooting because the majority of data traffic happens indoor, while conventional approaches such as drive test are more applicable to identify outdoor issues. In many countries, complaints about indoor usage amounts for approximately 80% of customers’ complaints about network quality, therefore geolocation with indoor capability is becoming a key element in the overall Customer Experience Management program of mobile network operators.
